"..Made in Sweden, the outstanding feature of the guitar is the patented interchangeable pickup. These unique pickup units are self contained and enclosed and are sold seperately from the guitar. They are easily plugged into the guitar body enabling the consumer and dealer to make any combination of guitar and pickup to suit his needs.
… enables a guitarist to pick the body, size and color of his choice and use the same instrument for as long as he plays guitar.
… With a few basic bodies and colors the dealer can instantly change pickup to satisfy the requirements of any customer…

April 1995 Guitarist (UK) Magazine - Special Feature...

Roger Cooper for Guitarist Magazine
travelled to Sweden back in 1995, to tell us his version of the story...

... of how during the 60s and 70s one company made a significant contribution to the history of popular musical instruments.

"...recalls a time when to be different was desirable, an attribute which unfortunately seems to be an increasingly rare commodity these days"

...the vibrato tailpiece used by Guild and Harmony, much copied as far afield as Poland and Japan.

In good condition well worth a thousand dollars today...
some say much more, what ever your limit, these guitars are truly special
in the history of modern guitars,
and the manufacturing transition for the Hagstrom company.

If you feel inclined, beware of shrinkage in the body leading to loose binding.
Machine heads may have been replaced or suffer from cracking.
Also the interchangeable pickup unit - it is set in a resin
that will make any maintenance extremely tricky, and I don't think your
local store will have replacements (or options) in stock!

Also, be aware of the different Hagstrom "Sparkle" models and
their subtle differences... Oh yes, I did say subtle !

I have it on authority the Standards with single coils are
a brighter sound than the the Deluxe, so...

Click on this 1960 Goya Standard 80 (R80) - it caught my eye...

from 1958 - the very first batch of Hagstrom Electric Guitars

There are many other features of the Goya guitar that make this instrument the finest in the world. The fingerboards are made of super strong, warp-proof, lightning smooth acrylite.
A super strong "H-rod" of a special alloy of Swedish airplane metal means the neck cannot warp or twist out of shape..."

There's nothing like a REAL original Swedish made Hagstrom (and there are loads around), but if it 'floats your boat', or you can't find an original then who are we to say?

Plenty has been said already and
will be said forever forward probably.
Only you know what's right for you!
