Anyone who's been on the Hagstrom trail
for a while will have seen or heard about Bill.
That is why I was very pleased when he mailed me about whether I'd 'like a few
pictures' for the site.
I don't intend making a meal of this,
but feast your eyes on some of the tremendous pictures he's put
together of some stunning examples from his past and present Hagstrom
collection.

First up aught to be something quite
special, but what do we choose?

"OK, how about transition Viking IN, Viking I head
stock, humbucker pickups, but the kicker is, factory original white, with
black binding, finish.
When it was offered for sale to me, I was dubious of the finish (I have
the very nice white '79 Viking, but there are not white Viking IN's as far
as I know.), but upon very closer examination, pickups, tuners removed,
examination of cracks in the finish, and of course the reverse black white
black binding, I think it is safe to say is very original. |
 |
Great guitar, fun to play, Viking I with humbuckers,
what else could one ask for?" |
I agree totally Bill, mine is a
sunburst from 1968, not as stunning to look at, but a peach to play!

Next up, following on with the rare
colour theme...

"The wonderfully purple Super Swede, S/N 0752xx. ...
...zoom in on the beautiful purple polyester, plastic
white/black/white binding, chrome bridge/tailpiece assembly to beat all
tailpiece assemblies, contrasting materials to the limit, WOW! |
|
You can just imagine the
long hair and flares that accompanied this beauty on stage eh? Absolutely
gorgeous, even if I am a natural wood lover, this is so special! |

This is a real Deluxe sight, how many
picture compositions like this are you likely to see ever again?
From 1961 a blue sparkle bass, a red sparkle bass, and a maybe unique black
'bat' bass or Deluxe Ä

We know the SuperSwede is special, the finest model Hagstrom
produced, and a variety of special order finishes.
here are more examples Bill has experienced close up... and if you think the
sparkle above warranted sunglasses, then continue down the page for some totally
awesome views...
Considering the short
production period for the SuperSwede (from 1977 to 1981) there is an
amazing variety to the finishes |

A beautiful natural
finish

 |
...another stunner!
 |
Well, I believe we've comprehensively illustrated one of
the finest guitars in the world...

|
This is the finest example from the Norwegian Hagstroms
I have ever seen,
an H15, s/n 12-920-10 possible going back to the 40's? |

Incredibly bright and clean for it's age.
It is a real pleasure to be able to share and show!
- Thanks again Bill |
More from Bill's private collection to follow...
There must be loads of stories (and pics) around
from the last forty years, why not share them with us!
